Shembe Settlement of Ekuphakameni and Ebuhleni

The Shembe Settlements are a must see for those of you that love history and culture.

Ekuphakameni, meaning ‘elevated place’ is original settlement of Isaiah Shembe’s religious community, Ibandla LamNazaretha. The site houses the original Shembe temple, built in 1918 by Shembe volunteers.

Ebuhleni is a home to Ebuhleni International church. In 1976 after a succession dispute, this religious community broke away from the original Shembe community, Ibandla Lama Nazaretha.
