Founded by John Langalibalele Dube in 1900. John Dube fundraised in the United States for the school he intended to start in Natal. First known as Zulu Christian Industrial School, later known as Ohlange Institute, opened on 26 July 1901, the first black controlled institution of its kind in South Africa. Nelson Mandela voted in the first democratic election in 1994, John Dube and his second wife Angelina are buried at Ohlange. JL Dube was the first president of the ANC (African National Congress).
